The initiative follows information obtained by the Foundation through the Right to Information (RTI) mechanism regarding unclaimed funds with LIC. The Foundation highlighted an RTI response indicating approximately ₹7,000 crore in unclaimed money with LIC of India. Current LIC disclosures show that unclaimed policyholder amounts and associated accrued income remain a significant financial issue; LIC also provides an online facility for citizens to check unclaimed amounts.

The Foundation said that unclaimed insurance money can represent the hard-earned savings and financial security of ordinary citizens, families and policyholders. Therefore, identifying rightful beneficiaries and facilitating legitimate settlements should receive sustained institutional attention.

LIC itself maintains grievance-redressal mechanisms at branch and higher levels for policyholders. The United Voters Social Foundation stated that its civic responsibility extends beyond electoral participation to protecting citizens’ economic interests, promoting transparency, using RTI to obtain public information, and pursuing legitimate citizen grievances through lawful institutional channels.

“A voter is not merely an individual who casts a vote; a voter is a citizen whose economic rights, public services, and interests deserve continuous protection,” the Foundation emphasized.
